Escaping Political and Cultural Entanglement
Dr. Greg Trull – Professor of Biblical Studies and Preaching
Dean of the School of Ministry
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” – Galatians 2:20
Our modern culture preaches relativism in all things: do what feels good, believe what you want, act in a way that “feels right.” While these might seem like harmless ideas, the reality is that objective truth exists, and Christians need to seek, understand, and follow it.
In this video, Dr. Greg Trull explains that we can’t have a personalized reality – and that this is actually freeing for us to trust in the truth of God’s reality. Having true perspective and approaching life with a Christian worldview allows Christians to carve out an understanding of everything, from politics to identity.
Trull describes how Americans have been politically swept to the left or right amidst our divisive political climate. Many Christians are either upset with Trump’s handling of the country or Biden’s recent win – they become entangled in politics and their emotions are driven by social media. It’s important to view politics – and every issue – with the perspective of Scripture. Going back to the Bible roots us in truth.
For example, when Trull talks to students about gender issues, Trull tells them to seek their identity in Christ – not in their gender. He says taking this Christ-centered approach can shed light on difficult situations.
Trull says that Corban is set apart because of its full commitment to a Biblical worldview. At Corban, it’s “not just a Christian teaching science, but studying science through the Christian perspective,” and that makes all the difference. Without anchoring your life to scripture, you’re “in danger of being swept in the winds of culture.”
