Clock Tower History

Clock Tower History

The dream of a clock tower for Corban started in 1993 with drawings and commemorative brick fundraising efforts launched. In September, 2006, with the help of clock maker Ed Beacham of Sisters, Oregon, Corban located an LO. Odobey, Jr. Cadet clock movement. It is considered to be in excellent condition and valued at $10,000-12,000.

The Odobey movement was chosen because of its historic value and the visual appeal of the mechanical movement. The mechanism is equipped with a pinwheel escapement which is considered a rare find. Coincidentally the movement is the same age as the Corban administration building, keeping the spirit of that era alive. Mr. Louis Bennett of Tumalo, Oregon sold the movement to Corban and graciously discounted the asking price as a donation to the college, which allowed it to be obtained for $8,000.

The legacy plaza and clock tower now enhance the heart of the Corban campus and draw a variety of visitors and clock enthusiasts to the University.
